Cold Start Testing
Cold Soak Deep Thermal Area
ETC has a 1,083 square foot (100 square meter) cold soak room equipped with extensive exhaust ventilation, remote diesel smoke viewing system, and direct expansion refrigeration to achieve soak temperatures down to –20°F (-29°C). This cold start testing area is commonly used to determine vehicle or engine cold start performance. The east door measures 114” (2.9 m) wide by 138” (3.5 m) tall, and can accommodate multiple passenger cars and trucks, and even heavy-duty commercial trucks.

High Altitude Cold Trailers
To support customers that perform vehicle development around the I-70 corridor through the Rocky Mountains, ETC maintains three trailers for vehicle development . The site is located at Silver Plume, Colorado (elevation 9,100 feet / 2773 meter) and has:- Three locked 53 foot (16 meter) trailers with drive-up ramps, able to accommodate 2 to 3 light-duty or medium-duty passenger vehicles each
- Climate control to maintain trailer temperatures from -20 to 80°F (-29 to 27°C).
The site is used primarily for vehicle cold start testing and drivability tests.
